Pump Maintenance & Care

Materials You’ll Need

  • Needle Nose Pliers – to help remove the impeller
  • Cotton Swabs – for interior detail cleaning
  • Clean Rag – for wiping pump surfaces
  • Cleaning Solution – mix ½ cup white vinegar with ½ gallon clean water

Step-by-Step Maintenance Instructions

1. Unplug the Pump

Disconnect the pump from power before performing any maintenance.

2. Remove Any Debris or Leaves by Hand

Manually remove all visible debris like leaves or twigs from the fountain.

3. Drain the Fountain

Starting from the top tier, carefully pour out the water from each bowl.

If your fountain has drain plugs, you can also easily drain each tier by pulling the plugs out instead.

4. Disassemble the Fountain

Remove each tier individually, disconnecting any tubing as you go.

5. Pull the Pump from the Pump Housing

Lift the pump out of the pump housing area for easy access.

6. Remove the Front Cover from the Pump

Detach the front faceplate of the pump to expose internal parts.

7. Twist Off the Impeller Cover

Unscrew the impeller cover to reveal the impeller inside.

8. Remove the Impeller

Gently pull out the impeller by using the needle nose pliers.

9. Clean the Pump Components

Soak a clean rag in the vinegar-water cleaning solution and use it to wipe down the entire exterior of the pump.

Use cotton swabs dipped in the same solution to clean inside the pump cavity, especially tight or recessed areas.

Carefully clean the impeller and the pump magnet to remove any buildup, algae, or mineral deposits.

10. Rinse Thoroughly with Clean Water

Rinse all components thoroughly with clean water to eliminate any residue from the cleaning solution.

11. Reassemble the Pump

Reinsert the impeller

Twist the impeller cover back into place

Snap or lock on the front cover

12. Adjust the Flow Control Dial

Set the flow control dial to your preferred water output before reinstalling the pump.

13. Reinstall the Pump

Place the pump back into the pump housing and reconnect tubing as needed.

14. Reassemble the Fountain

Stack the tiers in order, reconnecting the tubing between them securely.

15. Reinstall All Drain Plugs

Ensure all drain plugs are reinserted and secure before refilling with water.

16. Refill and Test

Fill the fountain with clean water, making sure the pump is fully submerged.

Plug it in and confirm smooth, quiet operation with steady water flow.

Always Remember

  1. Always use clean water – this prevents clogs, mineral buildup, and pump wear
  2. Keep the fountain clean – regularly remove leaves, twigs, and debris
  3. Never run the pump dry – check water levels regularly
  4. Clean monthly – routine maintenance is key to performance and longevity
